FAQs
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
What does a screening include?
The screening process includes talking to you or your child one-on-one, to determine if there are any concerns with their communication and/or listening skills at this time. It may also include classroom observations and discussions with your child’s teacher(s), and typically takes about 10-30 minutes depending on the child’s needs. Once a screening is completed, Wendy will call to verbally discuss the results as well as any recommendations she may have.
What does a speech and language evaluation include?
The evaluation process includes using specific standardized assessment tools to determine how your child’s communication skills compare with other children their age. The total evaluation time will vary, depending on the individual needs of the child. The speech and language report will include scores from the evaluation, as well as an explanation of the findings. It may also include treatment goals, if therapy is recommended.
What if my child was already evaluated by a specialist?
If your child has completed a recent evaluation with another specialist, but you would like them to begin services with Wendy, please feel free to reach out and she will gladly discuss possible options for treatment.
Are clients really able to see Wendy anywhere, at any time?
Yes! Well, almost anywhere and any time. Wendy is extremely flexible with modifying her schedule, and she attempts to make the whole process enjoyable and effortless. Sometimes that means modifying where and when she provides services for her clients. Although parents and caregivers know their child best, Wendy is aware that kids can be unpredictable at times. Therefore, Wendy prides herself on providing client-centered services, and she will work your family's individual needs.
How long will my child need speech and language therapy?
A client is typically discharged from therapy once they have met their goals. However, each child has individual needs and therefore Wendy is unable to determine exactly how long they will require treatment. With that being said, she strongly encourages support from home and school, in order for clients to reach their communication potential. She will gladly provide resources for parents and/or classroom teachers, including home practice worksheets upon request.
Why aren't the rates listed for some services?
Pricing for Pre-K and Kindergarten skills class, tutoring and accent modification therapy are determined by multiple factors that are client-specific. If you are interested in pursuing any of these services, please contact Wendy to discuss your specific needs.
